Welcome to the New Website

As you have probably noticed, the website is in the process of a redesign.

Steve Brooks has run the circuit site diligently for several years but decided to pass on the reins, so the (dubious) honour now falls to me. I am sure I speak for us all when I say a big thanks to Steve for all his hard work behind the scenes, and for his continued help in handing things over.

Next, a brief apology that this has taken a little while to get going, but hopefully all will be up and running within the next week or two.

To start with, the site will be a little sparse, but this will change as time goes on and more content is generated by the various churches around the circuit. A few of the features and ideas behind this redesign are:

  • Multiple Editors – The new site is based on a system called WordPress, one of the most popular in the world. One of the main reasons for this success is its ease of use and the ability to have multiple authors on the same site. Every church can easily have a couple of people given access to add things to this site, without waiting for one person (i.e. me!) to get round to adding information.
  • Easy to Update – The WordPress system is no more complicated to use than a basic word processor. If you can write a letter in Word, you can use WordPress.
  • A Circuit Resource – My vision for this site is one that is immediately useful to all around the circuit. Whether it be promoting a coffee morning at Kingswood or reading about the visit of an outside preacher at Breaston, the information should be available quickly and simply. It should be as useful as the circuit newsletter, but can change day-to-day as events and news come in.
  • Multimedia Ready – A exciting image from a church event, an inspirational audio file from a sermon or an interesting video on YouTube can all be easily embedded into the site.

Introduction to the site

Hopefully, everything should be fairly self-explanatory.

The main image on the home page will update with the latest featured news articles. Note the word featured in there. Less important items might not appear here, but everything will be shown on the news page. Also, a full list of the most recent news for each church will be found on that church’s page.

Talking of which, if you need to find a particular church they are all under the “Circuit Churches” link above. Simply hover over this with your cursor and the menu will drop down. They’re grouped by village/town as otherwise the list would be very long!

Some of the information is still slightly out of date, but it is in the process of being updated! If you notice anything please let me know.

A copy of the plan, meeting minutes and other circuit level documents will soon be on the site for ease of access for all.

If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. You can leave a comment below, or contact me directly.

God bless,

Jono

I note that Bramcote morning service is listed as 10.45 but on the Plan it is 10.30.

I’ve tried putting in a user name and password but nothing happens; how do I go about setting this up so I can log in?
Looks good to me so far – look forward to more.

Anyone can register – I’ll set up a special page for it, but for now it can be done by clicking the ‘Admin’ link at the very bottom right of any of the pages.

I’ll check the Bramcote page and update as needed.

    Great looking site!

Thanks for your work on this, just looking for some admin rights so that I can tweak some info on the Queens Road page.

    Brill!

Is it worth adding The Herons at Toton, which is MHA and in our Circuit?

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I’ll add it to my list!

Well done, the site is starting to take shape.
Thanks for “praise” on intro, much appreciated.
I enjoyed what I did, but technology left me behind as far as websites were concerned and thought what I had set out looked dated.
I took over when it needed to keep running when Neil let it slip,( he was a very busy man) but I know you will do a good job.
    All the best
    Steve
