Stuart Bell is the superintendent minister of the circuit, which means that in addition to looking after one church, Grangewood, he has oversight of the whole circuit, leading the team of ministers.
When he was a teenager, he lived in Wollaton, before going to university to study computer science – back in the days of paper tape and punched cards. After lecturing in computing for seven years, he responded to God’s call to ordained ministry, and after training at Wesley House, Cambridge, went to Brighton for his first appointment. There, he met and married Judith, and Lucy was born. That was followed by eight years in Horsham, Sussex, where Matthew was born, and then nine years in Southampton before moving to Nottingham in 2009.
That last appointment is the reason for his support of Southampton FC, an enthusiasm shared by Lucy and Matthew. Another keen interest is photography, together with modern technology; as his “.mac” email address indicates, he’s fan of Apple products!
Stuart is committed to helping the church to be the very best it can be in its mission, service and worship. That means offering worship which feeds, inspires and challenges, whether it be in a traditional or a more informal setting. In his spare time, he’s researching the influence of the Great War on popular faith at Birmingham University.
